Week # 9-Web 2.0 helped me understand the difference between Web 1.0 and Web 2.0.

After listening to the OReilly article, "What is Web 2.0", the difference in my mind boils down to Web 1.0 being top-down control ( as above...so below ) ; whereas Web 2.0 is bottom-up based on the user's needs, ( as below...so above) .

The bottom line to me is simple operation of all this technology. Good business is never complicated. It is honest, transparent and customer friendly, thus good for all concerned.

As a novice participant, I have noticed that many applications complicate every move with roadblock after roadblock, while Google quickly escorts me through mazes.

Why this is so, I can't explain, but it's easy to see why Google's stock sells for 10 times that of Microsoft, the 800 lb. gorilla in the room.

Thanks again for this opportunity add these tools to the 3 Rs from my pre-tech business past.

Learning 2.0 remix has inspired me to get on with it: the real world of my children and their children.

I'm not saying that I understand why technology is changing the way we study, work, play, and communicate with one another. But, thanks to this experience, I can, at last, accept what I know to be true.

Google reader is a great new tool which I use everyday.
Blogspot , not so much.
Facebook, maybe with time.
Delicious, could become a regular tool.

For Christmas, I bought myself a Wii to play with, I called Cox and got the home computer up and running, and who knows where these endless paths (links) of communication will lead me?

Thank you Diane and Cindy for opening the door of this aging, narrowed mind. It's truly exciting to have a whole new box of tools (WEB2.0) to play with.

So, I registered for an account in Facebook this week. It felt like the right place to go, since my Virginia Beach Library friends were already there.

Oh my, this experience took me way beyond my comfort ( in privacy) zone.

I cannot imagine myself using the internet to this degree in my personal life, but one never knows, does one?

It's week 7 and Web Widgets and Gadgets are fascinating toys. I can only imagine how much fun a whiz on the internet can have with these.

I had trouble adding my widget to this blog, but Jenn helped me find the right icons that moved the process forward. It also helped that I had printed out the Widgetbox Help tips.

I'm not proud, I need all the help I can find, and thank goodness, the Oceanfront library is full of generous helpers who want me to succeed in learning this 2.0 Remix.

Yes, I am still having fun.

BOLD

I've been busy learning remix 2.0, eventhough my blogspot doesn't reflect the excitement that comes with every lightbulb that comes on while studying articles, or watching the videos over and over again.

What a great week # 5 is turning out to be, thanks to my private lesson with Diane, my supervisor, yesterday. Fun, fun and more fun is how I would describe my hour sitting at her computer with her.

Now I have my own wiki page to gather my stuff into, plus an account with Delicious for ease in the gathering process.

Now the unthinkable is happening. My wheels are turning, even in my sleep.
WOW.
What awesome tools to learn to use for both my professional and private worlds.

Now, if I can just prevent them from spinning around in circles, I will accomplish much, thanks to this training opportunity.

As it turns out, IM is an easy, fast, and efficient form of communication.

Now, I need to organize all these ideas, tools, passwords and address links and put them somewhere, in a format that is available wherever I happen to be.

The notebook I am using for learning 2.0 is beginning to feel like one big hodgepodge of resources and information, with no place for all these bits and pieces to come together and form a coordinated and cohesive place for me to call homebase.

Hello out there. What am I missing ?

re. Podcasts

I thoroughly enjoyed roaming around vbgov.com and clicking on on "podcast", which brought up lots of useful information about our city.

Thanks for the heads-up and the how-tos.

Here I am again. It's Tuesday Oct. 21, 2008, Instant Messaging week. But first, backing up to last week, let's talk wikis.

Wiki is a very interesting, creative tool. Even I can appreciate the intrinsic value of multiple users "knocking heads" (as we referred to it in the retail business), on a project in real time, irregardless of physical location.

As a matter of fact, since way back in the 1970s, it was the retailer's dream to save travel time and expences by staying in their store, selecting the merchandise, writing, and editing their orders, while online with the manufacturers, via some kind of audio/video/ technology.

Now that it is here, it must be a wonderful tool for any Small Business Etrepreneur, among countless other uses.

O K ! At Last!
I'm beginning to feel the beat!
Learning 2.0 Remix is finally becoming fun.
TodayI am studying about Wikis and Wikipedia. I even created my Wikipedia account.
Maybe an edit or two tomorrow. Who knows?

Well, it's time to answer this week's questions re. the RSS experience.
Was it easy? Yes, with Diane by my side, but now I cannot remember how to find the Search "ADD Subscription" link.
Am I having fun? Sorta
Which method of finding feeds are easiest to use? I am down to the "URL"- ADD subscription since I cant find the" Search "ADD Subscription link.
Useful feeds found? I roamed around enough to see that there are many available.
Kinds of unusual ones? All are new to me at this point.

Enough already with these questions. Yes, I am enjoying the experience of seeing all ot this technology at work out here in Everywhereland.. about Everything.. that Everyone.. could Everwanttoknowland, but I still feel insecure trying to navigate around in this new world.

But I'm thinking this excercise is like dancing. There are not enough words to explain what your body is supposed to be feeling and your feet are supposed to be doing to the beat of the music.
Right now,I'm just hoping to feel the beat.

Starting over with Learning 2.0, ie. remix, created extra confusion which my supervisor walked me through, gracefully saving me from tears of frustation on the very first day.

My only hope is to have fun this time around, rather than ending up with severe neck pain due to the unbelievable pressure that I felt during last year's attempt to succeed.
